PRODUCT DETAILS

This is a functional replica version of a seax. The seax, also known as scramseax, was a type of Germanic single-edged knife used profoundly during the Dark Ages of Europe. It was utilized both as an everyday tool for activities from farming to self-defense and found usefulness in actual battles and wars.

This version is based on a 10th-century seax, which is a larger version, almost the size of a short sword. It was carried by Saxons, Franks, and Vikings and could be utilized in battlefield formations beside a large shield.

The blade has a peened tang and has been crafted from 5160 spring steel, a material renowned for its durability in cutting as well as stronger resilience to rust. It features a historically accurate narrowed blade design with a broad profile.

The one-handed handle is wooden and carefully wrapped with leather, allowing for a very firm grip. The guard is very small and accurate, acting as a hand stopper rather than a protective guard.

This sword comes with its own stitched leather scabbard with a belt hanger. Historically, it was carried horizontally in front of or behind the user's waist.
