Sleek and simple, Dragon King’s Yanone Katana embraces the concept of minimalism.
Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from 1566 high carbon steel, a material that has a higher percentage of added manganese. Combined with the differential heat treatment process, the resulting blade is hard, tough, and has superior edge retention. It also yields a beautiful gunome (wave-like) hamon that enhances the katana’s overall appearance.
Copper and synthetic steel fittings include the blackened maru gata (round) tsuba featuring arrowheads, fuchi, kashira, along with silver-toned seppa and habaki. In samurai culture, a yanone (arrowhead) reminds the warrior of their commitment to courage and moving forward. Since archery was also crucial among the samurai, the arrowhead also represents the samurai’s skill with the bow and their role as mounted warriors.
Following tradition, the wooden core handle of the katana is covered in white samegawa and wrapped tightly with black tsuka ito for a comfortable and secure grip. This piece is completed by a black lacquered scabbard with black sageo.
