PRODUCT DETAILS

Hanwei's Koi Wakizashi is an intricate and elaborate piece, focusing on both functionality and aesthetics. Handforged from T10 tool steel, this alloy has properties similar to 1095, but with improved strength and edge retention due to the addition of silicon. Differentially treated and clay tempered, the wakizashi has the added advantage of a beautiful and prominent midareba hamon.

As its name implies, this wakizashi is equipped with a black iron tsuba depicting an exquisitely engraved Koi in somewhat turbulent waters. Finely rendered in both the front and back of the tsuba, this theme is carried over to the other fittings such as the fuchi. In Japanese folklore, the Koi fish is regarded as sacred as they swim up rivers and climbs waterfalls. Symbolizing bravery, perseverance, and strength, the Koi is likened to the samurai. If caught, the Koi is still beneath the knife, facing death bravely just like a warrior would. All the koshirae have an antiqued finish, adding to the aesthetics of the sword.

The tsuka for this beautiful piece is covered in black same and wrapped with white premium Japanese cotton tsuka ito, contrasting with the deep black lacquered saya. Tying in the overall design is the black and white striped cotton sageo. Note that sageo colors may vary. This sword also comes with a protective cloth bag and traditional maintenance kit.
