Roiyaru Katana (Sanmai)

Like many of Thaitsuki's higher end swords, this Roiyaru Katana has a blade with sanmai or triple steel structure. Using hand forged and folded 1060 high carbon steel (1024 layers) to form the more flexible spine and body of the blade, the harder 1095 high carbon steel is used to form the edge of the sword. After the clay tempering and water quenching process, this results in a blade with a hardness of 35 HRC for the body and 60 HRC for the edge. Due to this process, this unokubi zukuri (cormorant's neck) blade has an elegant notare hamon that accentuates the beauty of the sword. The blade also has a bohi to decrease the overall weight of the blade, improve its point of balance, and amplify the tachikaze.

Besides the mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba, other high quality fittings include the silver seppa, habaki, and menuki along with brass fuchi and kashira with flower motifs. Two mekugi secures the blade's tang to the rikko (hourglass) tsuka covered in genuine black same using golden brown silk ito wrapped in the hinerimaki style.

The final component of this katana is the dark brown saya with inlaid flowers and has a matte finish. The scabbard is fitted with silver kurigata, koiguchi, and sayajiri along with golden brown silk sageo.
