The Japanese Wolf, or Okami, is a symbol of strength, loyalty, and protection, something that every samurai in ancient times would strive to represent. This is the Wolf Katana, a handmade sword designed to embody those ideals and bring them to the user. It is completely handmade from scratch and limited to only 100 pieces to make these models unique.
The steel for this battle-ready tameshigiri Wolf Katana is DNH7, carbon steel renowned for its ability to flex and retain a sharp edge after heavy-duty cutting tasks. It features the samurai's favorite shinogi zukuri blade profile with the addition of a bohi groove, which makes a louder tachikaze (sound of slashing), ideal for cutting practice. The blade has been traditionally clay tempered and carries a real wild and untamed hamon pattern. The spine carries a hardness of 40 HRC, while the edge has a durable 60 HRC, making it suitable for cutting through targets such as tatami mats with ease.
The two-handed handle is traditionally made: wood on top of the tang marked by the smith, real samegawa rayskin, and a very tight suede leather hatate-maki wrap. The decorations on the fittings, such as the guard and other fittings, each feature the wolf. The menuki are a billowing cloud and moon with a crescent moon that work very well with the howling of the wolf.
The scabbard is real authentic wood, custom-fit for the blade, ensuring proper and smooth sheathing and unsheathing. It has been lacquered for a shiny effect with a gray mist motif.
This Wolf Katana is made to be a perfect match with the Wolf Wakizashi (SC4049), making a proper samurai daisho. Please note that since each part of the sword is handmade, dimensions will slightly vary from piece to piece.
