Shadow Dancer Dragonfly Koshirae Crucible Kanmuriotoshi-Zukuri Katana

Dragonflies in feudal Japan represented courage, fidelity, strength, and were seen as protectors of children. That is why over time they became the symbol of the samurai, embodying what these legendary warriors represented to the Japanese community. This Japanese katana is decorated with a dragonfly motif and a purple color exclusive to the highest ranking officials, indicating nobility and status.

The sword is made of crucible steel, a high-carbon material created in a crucible through traditional methods that demand expertise and knowledge, resulting in a powerful, durable, and notably beautiful blade due to the unique grain pattern visible on the surface.

It has been traditionally and authentically clay-tempered, with a mixture applied to the edge during the forging process to strengthen it. This method was how samurai swords were hardened for battle, producing a real hamon pattern dancing across the blade's edge. It features a unique Kanmuriotoshi-Zukuri profile, designed for wide sweeping cuts and able to penetrate targets such as tatami mats and bamboo with ease.

The handle is traditionally made with separate pieces, featuring a wooden core tightly wrapped with black samegawa rayskin under a very tight tsuka-maki silk wrap with a dragonfly menuki decoration in the center. This dragonfly motif is also present on the fittings, including the pommel, blade collars, and handguard.

The sword comes with its very own scabbard that has been lacquered for a shiny effect and colored in vibrant red and black. It features a real sageo that can be untied and wrapped around the user's belt to carry the sword in a traditional manner.
