Shadow Dancer High Performance Katana 5160 Steel

This High Performance Katana from Shadow Dancer is an exquisite and elegant piece with a shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade forged from 5160 steel. Heat treated and oil quenched, the addition of chromium, manganese, and silicon to the steel results in a blade that is flexible, resilient, and has superior shock absorption. 

A well-defined yokote (transitional line between blade's body and tip) on the blade gives it a classically proportioned silhouette, adding to its visual appeal. Meanwhile, the bohi addition trims off any excess weight and brings its point of balance toward the hilt, improving the sword’s agility and responsiveness. The blade is then mirror polished for a flawless and reflective finish. 

The sword comes equipped with an iron maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba along with brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki with intricate bamboo motifs. The bamboo’s quick and upright growth has led to its symbolism of strength, resilience, and integrity. Considered one of the “three friends of winter,” bamboo serves as a reminder to remain consistent despite facing harsh circumstances. Gold-toned brass seppa and habaki complement the katana’s design. 

Following traditional construction, one mekugi holds the full tang blade between the two halves of the wooden Haichi-style tsuka, allowing for easy blade and handle maintenance. White genuine samegawa covers the handle while the tightly wrapped tsukamaki uses synthetic silk ito for a durable and secure grip. 

An oil lacquered saya with brass shitodome and thickened sageo completes this masterpiece.
