Iaito Sword (Blunt Sword)

Designed for Iaido, the Iaito Sword is similar to a real sword, but with its edge unsharpened so practitioners can hone their skills safely. Worn the same way as the katana, iaido practice is for personal development instead of combat.

This Iaito Sword from Z-Sey is fully handmade, with a shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and ridge close to the mine) blade made of stainless steel. Since it is a practice sword, the blade is not heat treated and therefore only features a fake midareba hamon. It is mirror polished to give it a smooth and reflective surface.

It features a mokko gata (lobed) iron tsuba (guard); blackened brass fuchi (hilt collar), kashira (pommel cap), menuki (decorative ornament); along with copper seppa (washer) and habaki (blade collar). The handmade tsuka (handle) is in Haichi style, first covered with white same (rayskin) with Emperor Node, and held in place by black kapok ito (handle wrap) from Japan.

The sword comes sheathed in a red oil lacquered saya (scabbard) with the koiguchi (mouth of saya), kurigata (knob for sageo), and kojiri (scabbard end cap) made of horn. The golden brown silk sageo also comes from Japan.

If you choose a handmade saya, the production time will be 5-6 weeks longer. Note that some errors may be possible as the sword is fully handmade.
