Windlass Model 1860 Union Cavalry Officer’s Saber

This is a Model 1860 Union Cavalry Officer's Saber, a decorative and accurate replica of one of the most popular swords used by the US military during the second half of the 19th century. It was a model that combined elements of previous swords and had a softer curvature with the tip protruding upwards, making it ideal for powerful slashes and suited for cavalry.

It is crafted out of 1065 high carbon steel, known for the right balance between toughness and flexibility. The blade is British military spec and can flex over 20° and still return to its true form. It has been beautifully etched with "U.S." and "E Pluribus Unum," alongside background foliage and several military trophies.

The handle is wooden and tightly wrapped with leather underneath a wire, just as the original. The protective guard has three branches made out of brass and is hand-chased and engraved, as well as the pommel.

This sword comes with its own steel scabbard that has a brass throat, rings, and drag. It is an ideal piece for a reenactor who wants to carry this sword made with the very same materials as it was hundreds of years ago.
