Dragon King Modern Tanto – Bohi

Dragon King’s Modern Tanto is designed in mind for modern life. Its kanmuriotoshi zukuri  (translating to “crown drop-off,” referring to the distinctive tapering from the blade’s back toward the tip) blade is forged from 1566 high carbon steel, a material containing manganese. 

The differential heat treatment not only yields a beautiful gunome (wave-like) hamon, it also produces a consistent microstructure, creating a blade that is hard, tough, and has superior edge retention. The addition of a naginata-hi (short wide groove) helps decrease the tanto’s overall weight while improving its point of balance. 

Copper-toned habaki and seppa add a warm contrast to the dagger’s design. Meanwhile, two mekugi secures the full tang blade to the handle made from G10 (garolite), a high pressure fiberglass laminate known for its strength, being lightweight, and moisture resistant. The handle features a dragon motif menuki, symbolizing divine protection, strength, and wisdom. 

This tanto comes sheathed in a black lacquered scabbard with a matching sageo. 

This Modern Tanto pairs beautifully with the Modern Katana (SD35471) and Modern Wakizashi (SD35476) as a daisho set.
