Nagamaki-Zukuri Katana

As its name implies, this Nagamaki Zukuri Katana from Z-Sey has a nagamaki zukuri blade forged from smelted steel that has been improved by the team. The differentially hardened, clay tempered, and Sashikomi grade A+ polished blade reveals a striking gunome (semicircles) hamon. It also has a naginata-bi (miniature straight groove with a top that has an opposite orientation from the blade) with soe-bi / kaki dome (secondary narrow groove that stops as a square before the tang). This functions to lighten the overall weight of the sword and improve its point of balance.

The katana is fitted with an iron kikka gata (chrysanthemum) tsuba; brass fuchi, kashira, menuki; and red copper seppa and habaki. Securing the handmade Haichi style tsuka is a mekugi before the handle is covered in white large emperor node samegawa and wrapped in kapok ito from Japan.

The blade is sheathed in a black oil lacquered saya with horn koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri while the sageo is made of artificial silk. In the images provided, the marudome (round end groove) is as requested by a client as the normal style is kakudome (square end groove). There is an option of a handmade saya, but a 4-6 weeks will be required for its production.
