PRODUCT DETAILS

This is a lightly blue-colored Japanese Katana with a hilt resembling a Nagamaki. The Nagamaki swords were used by the samurai to take down enemy armor and cavalry units because they allowed for strong, sweeping attacks. Their long blades were similar to a Naginata polearm, which were smelted down during the peaceful Edo Period and turned into shorter Katana blades. That is why they are sometimes nicknamed Naginata blades.

The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel that has been properly heat treated, quenched, and historically clay tempered to produce a genuine hamon with a much harder edge.

The blade of this Katana Nagamaki has bohi (grooves) that produce a tachikaze (sound of a perfect swing) and follows a unokubi-zukuri (blade profile). The handle is a massive, two-handed wooden core wrapped with rayskin, underneath a tight, silk tsuka-maki wrap. The scabbard is made of wood with a shiny gloss, while the fittings are entirely made of brass enriched with the Japanese dragon symbolizing bravery and courage.
