Windlass Roman Centurion Gladius

This is a Roman Centurion Gladius, the iconic weapon carried by the Roman officer leading his legionaries into battle. These swords were distinct from regular gladii, especially decorated to reflect the higher rank of commanding personnel, as seen on the hilt and scabbard. Additionally, it was initially carried on the opposite side of the regular gladius to signify status and rank.

This accurate replica is based on a finding in Italy. It is crafted from a 1065 high carbon steel blade, known for the right balance of flexibility and toughness, ideal for a blade of this size. It features an accurate mid-rib which reinforces it when used for cutting or thrusting.

The hilt has a solid wood grip with metal accents and has undergone an antiqued finish for aesthetics. It includes the iconic Roman finger openings on the handle to allow for a firm grip, complemented by a large pommel and a protective guard with decorations.

This officer Gladius comes with its own scabbard made out of wood and wrapped with leather for protection. Its fittings are antiqued metal. It includes a baldric for accurate and authentic carriage, just as a Roman officer would have worn it.
