Tanto daggers were trusted companions in the samurai’s daily life—small enough to carry everywhere, sharp enough to handle anything. Whether in the chaos of close combat or tucked into the belt during a quiet walk through the garden, they served both as weapons and tools. They saw plenty of use during Japan’s Muromachi period (1336–1573), when conflict was frequent and every inch of steel mattered.

This model uses the unokubi-zukuri blade shape—a design that keeps the base thick for durability while tapering to a lighter, faster tip. It’s a shape that worked especially well on shorter blades like tantos, giving them cutting power without losing control. The blade is hand-forged from high-carbon T10 tool steel, known for holding a sharp edge and resisting wear.

The tsuka (handle) follows the traditional build: real rayskin beneath a tight cord wrap in a diamond pattern. It’s all held together with a single wooden mekugi peg, locking the tang in place with no looseness.

The scabbard is of hardwood, polished smooth, and fitted with a sageo cord for proper tying. Clean and simple.
