Shadow Dancer Flaming Katana – 9260 Spring Steel with Bo-hi

Unique and stately, Shadow Dancer’s Gold Chrysanthemum katana from their Nova Series unites modern designs with flawless traditional craftsmanship.

With a shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length) blade forged from 9260 spring steel, the higher content of silicon in the material results in the production of a blade with exceptional flexibility, resilience, and shock resistance—perfect for any collectors and practitioner regardless of their level of experience. For enhanced performance, the blade has a single bohi (fuller) that decreases the sword’s overall weight and improves the point of balance while also enhancing the clarity of its tachikaze. 

As its name implies, this katana has blackened fittings with gold highlights featuring intricate chrysanthemum motifs—seen on the maru gata (round) tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki. The chrysanthemum (kiku) is the imperial emblem of Japan, representing refinement and longevity. Blooming in autumn, it also represents endurance and renewal. 

One mekugi secures the blade’s tang to the wooden core hilt which is first covered with white samegawa and wrapped tightly with black artificial silk tsuka ito for a secure and comfortable grip. 

This beautiful piece is completed by a glossy lacquered saya in black and gold along with a matching sageo, evoking late autumn vibes with falling leaves of gold.
