Armorer’s Folded Steel Katana

This katana from Bugei Swords is a tribute to Nagasone Kotetsu, one of the most famous Japanese swordsmiths of the Early Edo period. Known for graceful and robust swords with reliable performance, Kotetsu became so famous that his blades became the most forged in Japanese history. 

Like his, this katana has a daunting yet refined appearance. Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from a mixture of T10 and 1055 high carbon steel, allowing for a more distinct hada (grain pattern) without compromising on the blade’s strength. The differential heat treatment the blade undergoes also yields a stunning choji (row of clove buds) hamon. 

This katana comes equipped with high-quality blackened fittings—including a hakkaku gata (octagonal) tsuba with yanone (arrowheads) motifs, echoed in the menuki. Considered a symbol of the samurai spirit, the arrowheads reflect an appreciation for archery and as a reminder of their dedication to duty. 

Mekugi secure the full tang sword to the wooden core handle covered in genuine samegawa wrapped tightly using premium Japanese cotton tsuka ito for durability and comfort. This masterpiece comes sheathed in a lacquered brown saya fitted with buffalo horn kurigata and kojiri, along with a matching sageo.
