WW2 Japanese Type 98 Shin-Gunto Hazuya Polished Katana

This is an authentic and fully functional replica of a Japanese Gunto military saber, produced after the Tokugawa samurai shogunate ended in the 19th century. Known as Shin Gunto, these "new" military swords replaced the Kyu Gunto, which incorporated many foreign sword elements.

This particular model is a Type 98, renowned for its widespread use even during the late stages of World War II. It is hand-forged from durable 1095 high carbon steel, known for its resilience to cracks and overall toughness. The blade has undergone a traditional clay-tempering process, resulting in a striking choji hamon that dances along its length. It has a traditional hazuya stone polish giving the blade a sharp edge and a strong reflective quality.

The Gunto features a two-handed wooden handle, tightly wrapped with a tsuka-maki over genuine samegawa rayskin. Its brass and copper fittings are enriched with the Japanese imperial flower symbol and are gold-colored to signify nobility.

It comes with an iron scabbard wrapped in leather and secured with a locking mechanism, It also comes with a complimentary sword bag for safer and enhanced storage.
