Shadow Dancer Z-Tuff Steel High Performance Katana

Beneath its minimalist exterior, this Shadow Dancer katana is the pinnacle of modern metallurgical engineering. 

Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from Z-tuff powder steel, a type of tool steel known for its exceptional 130J impact toughness, wear-resistance, hardness (~HRC 60), along with good edge retention and rust resistance. Vacuum heat treated and oil quenched, its blade has no hamon but an artificial suguha (straight) is an available option. It is mirror polished fully by hand. 

Complementing the katana are premium fittings—including a blackened iron maru gata (round) tsuba, antique-finished cupronickel fuchi and kashira with a rugged stone-wall background, menuki, silver-toned brass seppa, and a Muji (plain) cupronickel habaki. 

Following tradition, one mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden Haichi-style tsuka covered in white genuine samegawa wrapped tightly using synthetic silk ito. The addition of hishigami (folded paper wedges) further prevents the ito from shifting and fraying, ensuring a comfortable, secure, and durable grip.

Completing this unique piece is a matte black oil lacquered saya with cupronickel shitodome and thickened sageo.
