Shadow Dancer Musashi Koshirae Crucible Steel Katateuchi

Renowned for his 62 undefeated duels, Miyamoto Musashi is a highly revered strategist, writer, and swordsman from the early Edo period (1603 - 1867 CE). In his later years, he designed sword fittings and tailored weapon proportions to match his Niten Ichi-ryū (Two Heavens as One) fighting style. 

Inspired by this kensei (sword saint), this Shadow Dancer sword embraces Musashi’s preference of minimalism and functionality. Designed in the historical Katateuchi style for lightning-fast one-handed use, its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from crucible steel, differentially heat treated, and clay tempered. The bohi trims off excess weight and shifts the center of gravity towards the hilt, resulting in a more agile and responsive sword. Traditional Sashikomi polishing accentuates the beautiful jihada and gunome (waves) hamon of the blade for maximum visual appeal. 

Following his iconic design, this katana is equipped with a blackened iron namako gata (sea cucumber shape) sukashi (openwork) tsuba, prized for its lightweight and agile traits. Other high quality koshirae include blackened brass fuchi, kashira, menuki, and copper seppa and muji (plain) habaki. 

White genuine samegawa serves as foundational covering over the wooden Haichi tsuka with tight tsukamaki using Japanese-imported cotton ito. Hishigami (folded paper wedges) beneath the wrap with an optional upgrade to the pro version ensures a long-lasting firmer grip and better edge alignment feedback. A mekugi secures the full tang blade to the hilt. 
A matte black oil-lacquered saya with brass shitodome and thickened sageo completes the overall ensemble.
