Hanwei Raptor Katana, Unokubi Zukuri – Nagamaki Blade

Another katana from the Raptor Series by Hanwei, this one features a full tang blade forged from 5160 spring steel, a material known for its resilience, flexibility, and excellent edge retention.

The unokubi zukuri shape of the blade, also known as the Cormorant's neck or Nagamaki Naoshi, is characterized by a unique horseshoe-like shape at the top of the blade. This helps to lighten the overall weight of the sword, ensuring that it is easier to wield without compromising durability and strength. Notable for its diamond shaped kissaki and strongly relieved shinogi ji, this katana is a strong cutting blade with excellent balance.

As part of the Raptor Series, it comes equipped with a black tsuba featuring a raptor. This theme carries over to the other fittings as seen on the fuchi, kashira, and menuki. The tsuka of this katana is covered with white same and wrapped with black tsuka ito. Completing the design is the lacquered saya with black sageo.
