Hanwei Practical Katana – Simple, Fully Functional and Differentially Hardened

This Practical Katana by Paul Chen combines simplicity and affordability, giving martial artists an excellent full tang blade forged from 1566 carbon steel, differentially tempered, and clay hardened to produce an edge of 60 HRC and a back hardness around 40 HRC. Due to the traditional heat treatment process, this katana has a prominent suguha hamon.

In line with the purpose and design of the katana, it is equipped with a simple maru gata tsuba, fuchi, kashira, habaki, and seppa. Despite not featuring any designs, the koshirae are made to withstand the rigors of tameshigiri. The wooden tsuka is then wrapped with black tsuka ito to give it a secure and comfortable grip. This katana is sheathed in a black wooden saya with black sageo.
