Kumori Katana

The Kumori Maru Katana by Thaitsuki is an alluring piece with a hand forged single steel shinogi zukuri (yokote and ridge is close to the spine) blade from 1095 high carbon steel. Clay tempered and water quenched, the extremely sharp edge has a hardness of 55 HRC while the body is at 40 HRC. The differential hardening process also results in a prominent notare hamon while the bohi decreases the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance. Based on the steel, this sword is recommended for experienced cutting practitioners who want a sharp edge that holds up to regular use.

As its name suggests, there are cloud motifs with hints of a dragon as seen on the silver maru gata (round) tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki. Other fittings include the silver double seppa and hana habaki. The rikko (hourglass shape) tsuka is covered in genuine black same and the tight hinerimaki uses a silk Tsuka Ito that is brownish gold in color. Close inspection of the tsuka will reveal two mekugi that secures the blade's tang to the hilt.

This katana comes sheathed in a dark brown glossy lacquered saya fitted with buffalo horn koiguchi and kojiri while the wooden kurigata is fitted with silver shitodome. Tying in the overall design is the brownish gold sageo, complementing the tsuka.
