PRODUCT DETAILS

Mysteriously alluring, this Shadow Dancer wakizashi is reminiscent of luminous starry skies. Its shobu zukuri (ridge line runs all the way to the tip without a distinct tip section) blade forged from crucible steel is differentially heat treated, achieving a sharp edge with exceptional retention while maintaining superior shock resistance. Authentic sashikomi polishing brings out the resulting suguha (straight) hamon and jihada, adding to the blade’s visual appeal.

This wakizashi is equipped with premium fittings including an iron tsuba and antiqued cupronickel menuki with shishi (獅子), a guardian lion. Serving as a spiritual defender against misfortune and danger, it represents protection, wisdom, courage, and is also often linked to Monju Bosatsu, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. Other complementary fittings include cupronickel fuchi and kashira with an antiqued finish, silver-toned brass seppa, and a copper Yujo-style habaki.

Following tradition, a single mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden Haichi-style tsuka covered in white samegawa white the tight tsukamaki uses Japanese-imported kapok (cotton-silk) ito for a durable and secure grip.

Completing the overall ensemble is a pearlescent glossy saya finished with high quality piano paint and a cupronickel shitodome with an antiqued finish.
