Dragon King Fletching Katana Bow Samurai

Deeply symbolic, Dragon King’s Fletching Katana is an elegant and sleek piece with designs that date back to the Edo period. 

The shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from 1566 high carbon steel. Differentially hardened, this produces a tough and sharp blade that holds up to extended use. It also yields a gunome (wave-like) hamon that accentuates the sword’s overall appearance. 

This katana comes equipped with silver- and copper-toned mountings including kuruma gata (wheel-shaped) tsuba featuring fletching (feathers from an arrow). Known as “yaguruma” in Japanese, this popular decorative pattern is deeply rooted in samurai culture and Shinto belief. Besides being used as a talisman to protect children—with hopes of them growing up strong and healthy—arrows also symbolize clarity and finding the right path in life.

A single mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden core tsuka covered in white samegawa wrapped tightly using tsuka ito for a secure and comfortable grip. Completing the katana is a lacquered scabbard with matching sageo.
