Shadow Dancer Kanmuriotoshi Zukuri S7 Steel Tameshigiri Katana

This masterpiece by Shadow Dancer is the Kanmuriotoshi Zukuri Tameshigiri Katana. As its name implies, this elegant sword is unique in the sense that it has a kanmuriotoshi zukuri (translating to “crown drop-off,” referring to the distinctive tapering from the blade’s back toward the tip) blade. Without a yokote to define the blade's tip, the ride line extends from the guard to the tip, a design that dates back to the Kamakura Period (1185 - 1333) where it was mostly made by Yamato sword schools.

However, unlike the blades of old, Shadow Dancer's full tang blade is made from S7 Steel, a material known for its high shock resistance, toughness, and strength. This extremely sharp blade that is mirror polished also features a bohi that decreases the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance, improving its performance in terms of speed and maneuverability. 

This katana is equipped with high quality koshirae in shades of black and gold including an iron  maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba, as well as intricately decorated brass fuchi, kashira, menuki, seppa, and habaki with motifs of trees, plants, and flowers. The elaborate patterns on the fittings showcases the meticulous care put into the design of the sword. 

The wooden Haichi-style tsuka is covered in white samegawa and tightly wrapped with Japanese-imported black cotton ito. Lastly, this katana comes sheathed in a glossy oil lacquered saya fitted with brass shitodome and a matching sageo.
